Small field, meadow, paddock and orchard maintenance.
Covering South Shropshire, North Herefordshire & Worcestershire.
Small Meadows
We know there are many small meadow landowners with just a few acres to manage. Often these small meadows are not economical for farmers with larger equipment to cut and maintain, or access is too difficult. Our compact tractor with turf tyres will access most meadows whilst minimising soil compaction, it is also much less likely to damage wet ground. More info…
Paddocks
We offer a paddock grass topping service using our Wessex 1.75m flail mower which cuts and mulches the grass, rather than merely cutting it like a conventional pasture topper or rotary mower. This helps the grass to dry out and rot faster, speeding up the regeneration time of the sward and reducing the time for your horses to return to grazing. We also offer grass harrowing. More info…
Orchards
We maintain our own small orchards so know too well that a compact tractor is the ideal tool for mowing around trees. Regular mowing helps to increase fruit yield by improving soil conditions, suppressing pests, weeds and reducing competition for resources. With the tractor roll bar down we can easily mow under low branches too (when safe to do so). More info…
Secure Dog Fields
Mayo Groundcare was actually established to help us maintain our own 4-acre secure dog field. We like to keep the grass in our own field short for hygiene reasons. Regular cutting also helps to promote a denser, healthier, and neater field that is appreciated by our clients with both four and two legs. More info…
Recreational Fields
We are happy to cut and maintain local recreational fields. Regular cutting helps to improve safety by reducing tripping hazards, makes pests/snakes more visible, and lowers the risk of injuries. A nicely cut field also offers better playability for sports and a more pleasing aesthetic appeal to help encourage use.
Large Gardens
Our Wessex CMT-180 Finishing Mower with adjustable height is perfect for managing private estates and large gardens. The wheels can be raised and lowered to achieve the perfect cut hight and finish very much like a traditional lawnmower. The anti scalp roller also helps to reduce scalping on undulating ground.
Service Area
We are based on top of Clee Hill, Shropshire and cover all of South Shropshire, North Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Occasionally we will also travel further afield.

FAQs
- What area do you cover? We cover all of South Shropshire, North Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Occasionally we will also travel further afield.
- What tractor do you use? We use an ISEKI TH5420 Compact Tractor with a stage V compliant 40hp 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine equipped with turf tyres.
- What mower do you use? We currently have two mowers. A Wessex CMT-180 Finishing Mower which is ideal for shorter grass and delivers a smooth, professional, and manicured cut, similar to a traditional lawnmower. We also have a Wessex WFM-175 Flail Mower which is better suited at tackling tougher vegetation, such as heavy grass, weeds, and overgrown areas.
- Do you also offer a grass harrowing service? Yes we do. Please view our Grass Harrowing page for further details.
- How much access space do you require? We require a gate width of only 2.2 meters wide for our tractor and attachments, providing we can unload and leave our transport trailer somewhere safe outside of the field. Field access with our trailer requires 2.5 meters if we can enter from a straight angle. If turning in at an angle from a narrow lane 4 meters or wider is typically required for clearance of a gateway.
- What size fields do you mow? We are happy to mow fields as small as 1-acre and as large as 10-acres.
- How much do you charge? No two fields are the same so we will always provide a quote for each job. However, you can find a rough idea of our charges on our Price Page.

About Mayo Groundcare
Mayo Groundcare was established after requiring a means of maintaining Perry Dog Field which is a 4-acre secure dog field that we run on our small 80-acre family farm near to Kidderminster.
Our existing farm machinery wasn’t really suitable due to the weight of the machines and aggressive agricultural tyres causing more damage than good. Therefore Tim decided to invest in a small compact tractor with turf tyres to maintain the field.
However, due to the cost of even small compact machinery it wasn’t really financially viable to purchase the equipment solely for maintaining our own field. Therefore Tim decided to offer a groundcare service to other small field owners in the area and thus Mayo Groundcare was born.
There are many benefits to using a smaller compact tractor versus a full-size tractor to maintain large gardens, small fields, meadows and paddocks.
For one they are much lighter than full-size tractors which reduces soil compaction and damage to wet ground which is important for healthy grass growth. They are also easier to drive in tight spaces, around trees, fences, or uneven ground where a larger tractor would struggle.
Field access can also be difficult for larger tractors with many not even fitting through gateways. We require a gate width of only 2 meters wide for our tractor with mowing attachments providing we can leave our transport trailer somewhere safe outside of the field. Access with our trailer requires 2.5 meters for comfortable clearance of a gateway.
If you would like to Tim to come and take a look at your own field and provide a free no obligation quote please do get in touch.
