Mayo Groundcare was originally established to help us maintain our own 4-acre secure dog field near to Kidderminster.
As any dog walking field owner knows, poo is our biggest challenge! Too much left over mess can quickly lead to a negative field experience which, in turn, can lead to negative online reviews and reduced customers through the gates.
We like to keep the grass in our own field short for hygiene reasons, this helps to make poo finding easier for our clients, and also for us during our daily field checks.
Regular cutting also helps to promote a denser, healthier, and neater field that is appreciated by our clients with both four and two legs. Keeping the grass short also means there is less chance of seeds or bugs affecting dogs in the field.
Our Iseki TH5420 Compact Tractor with turf tyres is the perfect tool for mowing dog fields whilst minimising soil compaction, it is also much less likely to damage wet fields.
For short grass we typically use our Wessex CMT-180 Finishing Mower. The wheels can be raised and lowered to achieve the perfect cut hight and finish very much like a traditional lawnmower, with the lowest cut just 19mm (0.75″) and the highest 110mm (4.33″). The anti scalp roller also helps to reduce scalping on undulating ground.
For much longer grass, tougher vegetation and weeds we would use our Wessex 1.75m Flail Mower instead. The flail mower cuts and mulches the grass, rather than merely cutting it like our finishing mower. Cutting height can be adjusted from as short as 30mm (1.18″) up to 110mm (4.33″).
We are happy to mow dog fields from 1-acre to 10-acres in size. However, typically anything over 5-acres in size will be more cost effective mowed with a larger tractor/mower than we use.
Also rest assured that we won’t be entering your field when dogs are still in there or leaving gates open. We will need to block out a time slot with you ahead of time.
As well as mowing, we also offer grass harrowing to help improve your dog field health by removing moss and dead material, stimulating grass growth, enhancing soil aeration, and promoting better nutrient uptake.
Dog Field Mowing Cost
No two jobs or dog fields are the same so we like to quote for each job individually. This way you know exactly how much you will be paying regardless of how long it ends up taking us.
Our prices take into account our insurance costs, labour, and machinery costs. Diesel is included in these prices and we are not currently VAT registered so there is no VAT to add.
For dog field mowing with our compact tractor and finishing mower we charge £55 per hour. For mowing with our Flail Mower we charge £60 per hour. Grass less than 1ft in height we can cut at around 1 acre per hour. 2-3ft in height we can cut at around 1 acre in 2 hours. Taller than 3ft will take longer as will mowing around any agility equipment in the field.
Travel Costs
We don’t charge extra for travel within 5 miles of DY14 0QU (Clee Hill). Additional miles outside of this area are charged at £2 per mile.
Minimum Charge
We operate a minimum charge of £150 even if the job only takes us 30 minutes. This is because of the time and cost required to load, secure and travel with a compact tractor and equipment.
